Position Overview

The Foundations Program in the College of Visual Arts and Design seeks an adjunct colleague with expertise in Design, Visual Art, or a related discipline who understands various approaches in teaching in the Foundations curriculum. The adjunct faculty will work closely with the Foundations Director and faculty to facilitate student learning and achieve a cohesive curriculum goal for all students.

Responsibilities

• Teach students to understand creative processes, the transferability of skill, and conceptual thinking in art and design disciplines.
• Teach media at the Foundations level, applying the elements and principles of art and design in various media such as drawing, 2D and 3D design, time‑based, lens‑based, and digital, within a thematic and conceptual framework.
• Develop and deliver lectures and lab work following the lecture/lab format of course delivery.
• Prepare students for rigorous college courses in visual art, design, art education, and art history.
• Serve occasionally as a substitute in an hourly‑rate capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

MFA in Visual Art, Design, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• A demonstrated ability to teach and make connections across various (2D/3D/time‑based, etc.) disciplines in visual art and design.
• A demonstrated ability to mentor students.
