Job summary

William Woods University is seeking a part-time adjunct instructor to teach Microbiology for the Fall 2026 semester. The lecture meets Tuesday and Thursday from 10:50 to 12:05, and the lab meets Wednesday from 2:00 to 5:00. This is an in-person position with weekly lab activities already prepared.

The candidate will teach the lecture, facilitate the lab, grade work, and prepare and store lab materials. Previous course materials can be provided upon request.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology preferred; Master’s in Biology considered.
  • Experience teaching labs and professional working experience in related fields is preferred.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and strong communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the Microbiology lecture portion and facilitate the lab.
  • Grade student work and provide timely feedback.
  • Prepare and put away lab materials; manage lab logistics as needed.

Job Type: This is a part time, exempt position.

General Description:

William Woods University is now accepting applications for a part-time adjunct faculty to teach a lecture/lab for Microbiology for the Fall 2026 semester. The lecture meets Tuesday and Thursday from 10:50-12:05, and the lab meets Wednesday from 2:00-5:00. The weekly lab activities are already prepared. The instructor’s responsibilities will be to teach the lecture portion, facilitate the lab, grade work, and prepare and put away the lab materials. Previous course materials can be provided upon request.

This is an in-person position.

Position Requirements:
  • A doctorate in biology is preferred, but applicants with a masters in biology will be considered.
  • Experience teaching labs and professional working experience in the related fields is preferred.
  • Applicants must have at least five (5) years of experience in the field related to the course(s) they will teach.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.
  • Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse school/campus constituents.
  • Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision.
  • Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
