Job Purpose:

invites applications for its Adjunct Instructor Pool. This pool focuses on teaching doctoral-level research courses, including classes such as Principles of Research and Quantitative Research Methods. Depending on qualifications, instructors may also be asked to teach elective courses currently offered in the program. We will contact candidates as courses become available. Generally, this will be between 1-3 courses in an academic year. Courses are delivered online (Canvas) in either 8 (summer) or 16-week formats and may include a required in-person campus immersion component.


Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and supporting graduate students as they develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to conduct doctoral-level social science research effectively. Our program ethos is to support students in developing their own research agenda and focus.


Adjunct faculty are responsible for teaching developed hybrid and/or online courses, teaching immersion class sessions, evaluating assignments, submitting grades, and being available to meet with students as needed.Adjuncts are also expected to communicate with the departmental chairperson regarding student concerns, departmental expectations, and other areas of student engagement and success. We seek candidates with graduate-level teaching experience and demonstrated expertise in social science, leadership, or closely related fields. Evidence of continued research activity beyond the dissertation is desirable.

Essential Functions:


  • Update, plan and teach assigned courses in Canvas

  • Evaluate assignments, including submitting grades according to university policy and established deadlines.

  • Use Canvas to organize the course, communicate with students, collect assignments, and post grades.

  • Collaborate with department chair on curriculum and key assessments.

  • Possible teaching assignments based on need could include:

    • DPLS 720: Principles of Research

    • DPLS 722: Quantitative Research

    • DPLS 723: Qualitative Data Analysis




Minimum Qualifications:


  • A doctoral degree in leadership, sociology, psychology, educational leadership, or a related disciplinary field.

  • Evidence of online teaching experience at the graduate level.

  • Demonstrated ability/potential to provide quality educational experiences to a diverse student population.

  • Ability to transfer the Gonzaga Mission into the classroom experience.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • At least 5-7 years of graduate education teaching experience with in-person and online teaching, preferably at the doctoral level.

  • Has conducted and published social science research beyond one's dissertation.

  • Experience with Canvas as an online learning platform.

  • Experience with hybrid agnotological teaching methods.


Educational Requirement:

Doctoral Degree (either Ph.D. or Ed.D.)
