Adjunct Instructor – Anatomy & Physiology

Worksites: Appleton Main Campus, Oshkosh Riverside Campus, Public Safety Training Center (PSTC)

Job Description Summary

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success. This position contributes to the field of Anatomy & Physiology, teaching courses such as General and Advanced Anatomy & Physiology, Human Biology, and Basic Anatomy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
  • Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and learning and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
  • Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the division, department, and team members, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
  • Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and the integration of new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements

Instructors who teach General Studies college credit courses must have:

  • A. A master's degree in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
  • B. A master's degree AND 18 graduate credits in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
  • C. A master's degree AND appropriate licensure in the discipline or subfield they teach.

When evaluating the credentials of faculty who have obtained a Master of Education degree but not a master's degree in a discipline:

  • Graduate‑level courses in the discipline/subfield and methods courses that are specifically for the teaching of that discipline/subfield may be considered for meeting the 18 graduate credit hour minimum.

Non‑US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries. Courses to be reviewed on an individual basis.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor. Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job‑specific licensing standards.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
Physical Requirements
  • Mobility: The ability to move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students' desks or workstations.
  • Standing and Sitting: The capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, as well as the ability to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Depending on the subject matter, instructors may need to lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props. Specify any weight limits or frequency of lifting as necessary.
  • Speech and Hearing: Clear speech and the ability to hear students' questions and interactions are essential for effective instruction.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Instructors may need precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers.
  • Visual Acuity: Adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment.
  • Health and Safety: Instructors should be capable of ensuring a safe learning environment, including understanding and adhering to safety protocols, responding to emergencies, and addressing any physical hazards in the instructional space.
  • Travel: Instructor position may require off‑site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.
  • Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in‑person and through electronic means.
