Grand Rapids Community College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor in Theater to teach courses on our Grand Rapids campus during winter terms. The ideal candidate combines passion for teaching with a commitment to student success and flexible scheduling across modalities.

Qualifications include a Master’s in Theater or related field (Bachelor’s with relevant experience acceptable for some courses) and prior community college teaching preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Theater or related field required for most courses; some courses accept a Bachelor's with relevant experience.
• Community college teaching experience is preferred.
• GRCC values diversity and excludes visa sponsorship for adjuncts.
• Only adjuncts living in Michigan may teach GRCC courses.

Responsibilities

• Teach Theater courses offered by GRCC on the Grand Rapids campus.
• Follow the department's syllabus and use approved textbooks.
• Meet classes as scheduled and for the required length per the contract.
• State course outcomes clearly and document assessment criteria.
• Foster an engaging classroom environment that supports achievement of outcomes.
• Keep accurate student records and report grades by deadline.
• Provide reasonable accommodations under ADA and FERPA policies.
• Respond to communications promptly and facilitate access to course information.

Job description

Grand Rapids Community College department of Theater is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Adjunct Instructor to teach Theater class(es) winter semesters on our Grand Rapids campus.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success, ensuring a high-quality learning experience for all students.

Adjunct needs are determined on a semester by semester basis, as are the number of sections offered each semester. GRCC classes are held at a variety of times, Monday through Saturday in different modalities such as Hybrid, Online & Virtual. For semester start and end dates, see GRCC’s Academic Calendar.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Teach GRCC course offering(s) in Theater.
• Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members:
• Follow the required syllabus template.
• Use the required textbook as determined by the department.
• Meet classes during the time scheduled and for the appropriate length of time required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• State course outcomes clearly at the beginning of the course and state the criteria and procedures for evaluating student attainment of these objectives.
• Promote an intellectually stimulating atmosphere in the classroom which is conducive to the attainment of high academic achievement and stated course outcomes.
• Keep accurate student academic records.
• Report grades by contractual deadline.
• Make reasonable accommodations as approved by the Disability Support Services to meet students’ needs and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Follow College policy on the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Make all reasonable efforts to respond to communication in a timely manner and provide reasonable means for student access to course information.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Theater or related field from an accredited institution required is required for most courses; however, a Bachelor’s degree in the specific area along with demonstrated relevant experience is appropriate for a few specific courses (including Dance, College Players, and Theater Technology).
• Teaching experience at a community college preferred.

Physical Demands
