Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana seeks Adjunct Faculty to deliver assigned courses, using current technologies to enhance instruction. Responsibilities include developing syllabi, planning lessons, and maintaining records while engaging students for a positive learning experience.

Applicants should have a master’s degree in early childhood or related field, 18 graduate credits, and one of: certification or two years of related work experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or related field.
  • 18 graduate credit hours in related courses with appropriate academic preparation.
  • Professional certification in the field or equivalent.
  • Two years of directly related work experience in early childhood (birth through age 8).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes per college policy and course objectives.
  • Develops and maintains syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and course materials.
  • Maintains accurate student records and grades.
  • Engages with students to enhance learning and implement active teaching strategies.
  • Monitors student performance and provides interventions and academic supports as needed.
  • Adheres to FERPA and college policies; maintains professional conduct and safety in classrooms.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Program Chair, Department Chair, or DeanSUPERVISION GIVEN: NoneCOMPENSATION: Part-Time, $47.35/contact hourMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives. Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods. Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements. Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular). Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources. Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations. Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strongworking knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts allactivities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, andviews.EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DISCIPLINE STANDARDA qualified faculty member in early childhood education meets the program standard through: Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in early childhood education, child development; or Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate credit hours in courses closely related to early childhood education and development, with academic preparation appropriate to the course and /or specialty being taught; and Possesses one of the following:o Professional certification in the field; oro Two years of directly related work experience in the field of early childhood - birth through age 8.o Bilingual-Spanish language preferredIvy Tech is committed to supporting the well-being, growth, and financial security of our part-time employees.
