Job summary

Eastern Iowa Community College District seeks an Adjunct Faculty member in English to teach courses across multiple campus locations, including in-person and online formats. Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in accordance with established outcomes; delivery formats may vary.
  • Collaborate on curriculum development and revision.
  • Meet scheduled classes on time and attend meetings as required.
  • Ensure student outcomes are achieved in each course.
  • Evaluate and provide regular feedback on student performance.
  • Maintain office hours and meet with students as needed.
  • Refer students to Academic Support and Student Services as needed.
  • Act as a student academic advisor.
  • Develop and administer assessment instruments to validate outcomes.
  • Maintain attendance, progress, and grade records.
  • Plan and implement learning strategies to meet outcomes.
  • Analyze planning and teaching results and revise plans.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of students.
  • Contribute to departmental teamwork and educational improvement.
  • Maintain currency of professional skills and engage in professional learning.
  • Provide quality service to students and stakeholders.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean.

  • Salary: $700.00 per credit hour; EICC retirees $1000 per credit hour.
Job Description

Responsible for teaching courses and assessing learning outcomes in English. Available assignments include campus locations across EICC, including college campus and high school building; in-person Monday through Friday; morning and/or afternoon availability desired. Online and evening teaching opportunities available as well. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching and service, and a commitment to the mission and values of the community college.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in English, Communications, MFA (English), or a master's degree with at least 12 graduate semester hours (GSH) in a combination of the qualifying fields that provide a foundation in the specific subject matter being taught, including English, Communications, MFA (English), Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, Speech, Technical Writing, English Education (a minimum of 6 credits must be from English, Communications, or MFA (English)).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in accordance with outcomes identified in the established course development model. Teaching assignments may include varying delivery formats and methods.
  • Collaborate in the development and revision of curriculum as needed.
  • Meet promptly with scheduled classes.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty, college, district, and advisory meetings unless excused by the Academic Dean.
  • Assure that student outcomes are achieved in each course.
  • Evaluate and record student performance and achievement on a regular basis and provide regular feedback.
  • Maintain established office hours and meet with students as necessary.
  • Refer students to Academic Support and Student Services as needed and meet recommended student or instructional accommodations as required.
  • Serve as a student academic advisor.
  • Develop and administer assessment instruments to validate student outcome achievement.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and grade records of all students.
  • Effectively plan and implement learning strategies appropriate for meeting student outcomes.
  • Analyze results of planning and teaching and make appropriate revisions.
  • Assist college in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Actively serve as a departmental team member in effecting change and fostering continual educational improvement.
  • Maintain currency of professional skills to continually enhance instructional skills.
  • Regularly engage in professional learning activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.
  • Commit to providing quality service that meets or exceeds the expectations of students and internal or external stakeholders.
  • Complete other job duties unique to your area as assigned by the academic dean.
