Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking an adjunct faculty member for Physics and/or Earth Sciences to deliver assigned courses on a part-time, as-needed basis at the Indiana campus. Responsibilities include preparing syllabi, documents, and assessments, tracking student progress, and providing interventions to support academic success.

Qualified candidates will have a master’s degree in physics or related field with additional physics coursework, and will apply current instructional technologies

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned classes following college policy and course objectives.
  • Develop and maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and attendance.
  • Engage with students to promote active learning and using technology effectively.
  • Monitor student performance and provide interventions and advising as needed.
  • Adhere to FERPA and college policies; ensure safety in classroom and labs.

Education

Master's degree in physics
18 graduate credit hours in physics-related courses

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, show evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time

Compensation: $47.35 / contract hour

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.

PHYSICS / EARTH SCIENCE DISCIPLINE STANDARD

A qualified faculty member in physics and/or earth sciences meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

  • Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in physics, or
  • Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 graduate semester credit hours in physics-related courses.
