JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of Health and Sport Sciences, Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences at Adelphi University invites applications for adjunct faculty in the undergraduate physical education program for the Fall 2025 semester. We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable individuals to teach in-person pedagogy, activity, and methods courses in areas including, but not limited to: Curriculum and Teaching, Technology and Assessment, Elementary Physical Education Methods, Elementary Fieldwork, and Lifetime Activities. We are also seeking individuals to supervise physical education student teachers on Long Island.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and teach in-person undergraduate classes during the day, including: using Moodle to build and share course materials with students, creating syllabi in line with program and university standards, timely submission of feedback and course grades, and meeting all academic course deadlines and policies.
Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.
Contribute assessment data and course information as requested.
Supervise physical education student teachers within their field placements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of an earned Master’s Degree. Doctoral degree or ABD is highly preferred.
Experience teaching pedagogy courses, physical education methods and activity courses.
Experience teaching physical education K-12 is preferred.
Experience with teacher certification, student teaching, professional organizations, student mentoring, and accreditation are strongly preferred.
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members.

SALARY INFORMATION:
In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary for this position is $1,866 per credit.

Adelphi University is the premiere institution in Physical Education Teaching Preparation on Long Island. The Physical Education Program currently offers a BS in Physical Education and an MS in Physical Education both with K-12 NYS certification. A recently developed 4 + 1 program allows students to earn a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Health Education in 5 years with many health courses completed during the initial four-year period and included in undergraduate tuition. Our Masters programs offers specializations in Adapted Physical Education, Sport-Based Youth Development, and Health, Physical Education, and Athletic Leadership, and Inclusive Physical Activity and Sport.
