Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is seeking an adjunct philosophy faculty member to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned courses. You will provide a syllabus aligned with course requirements and maintain attendance and grading records according to College policy.

The role requires availability to students outside class time, collaboration with the program coordinator when issues arise, and delivery of scheduled classes using Canvas and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Philosophy or equivalent
• 18 graduate hours in Philosophy if degree is in another field
• Experience teaching philosophy is preferred

Job description

Major Responsibilities

• PROGRAM OPERATION: Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submit requested information within established timelines.
• STUDENTS: Be available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions or provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues.
• INSTRUCTION: Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Canvas, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency absence, notify program/department chair. Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

Pay: $47.35 per contact hour

Hours: daytime, evening, and weekend classes - depending on course schedule

Minimum Requirements

Philosophy Discipline Standard:

A qualified faculty member in philosophy meets the discipline standard through one of two routes: Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in philosophy; or Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in philosophy.

Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.
