Job summary

South University is seeking a Nursing Clinical Adjunct to support clinical experiences on campus. The role collaborates with Lead Clinical Faculty, Clinical Coordinator, and Program Director to prepare and teach clinical and laboratory nursing courses.

This is an in-person role (not remote). The candidate should hold an RN license, have Pediatrics or Medical/Surgical experience, and at least two years of clinical practice in the specialty area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Experience in Pediatrics or Medical/Surgical required.
  • Two years of experience in the clinical specialty area.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build relationships with students.
  • Strong conflict resolution and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations and maintain professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises students in clinical practice, internships, observations, labs, and related course work.
  • Counsels or refers students with identified clinical performance problems.
  • Maintains high ethical standards as an educator and nursing professional.
  • Debriefs and evaluates students in clinical practice and field experiences.
  • Taught the required hours and courses as stated in the contract.
  • Keeps office hours and attends required meetings.
  • Articulates course learning outcomes and creates engaging materials.
  • Supports students to understand content through one-to-one or group sessions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nursing Clinical Adjunct is responsible for the generaleffectiveness of clinical experiences. Adjunct Faculty has aprimary responsibility for preparing and teaching clinical and/orlaboratory nursing courses. The Nursing Clinical Adjunct works withthe Lead Clinical Faculty, Clinical Coordinator, and the ProgramDirector.

This is an in-person position. Not remote.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Nursing Clinical Adjunct is an adjunct clinical instructorwho:

  • Supervises students in clinical practice, internships,observations, field experiences, nursing labs, and other similarcourse and graduation requirements
  • Counsels or refers students with identified clinicalperformance problems.
  • Maintains the highest moral and ethical standards as aneducator, as a nursing professional, and as a responsible member ofthe community.
  • Debriefs and evaluates students in clinical practice,observations, and field experiences.
  • Teaches the number of hours and courses stated in theemployment contract for the stated time periods.
  • Meets all clinical and other scheduled responsibilities such asoffice hours and meetings at the designated time.
  • Articulates course learning outcomes or objectives to ensurestudent understanding of course learning objectives andexpectations.
  • Creates course materials required to deliver course informationin an understandable and interesting manner to ensure students areengaged with the course material to facilitate achievement of thecourse learning outcomes.
  • Adheres to identified office hours and be available to assiststudents to understand course content and/or clinical scenarios tofacilitate the comprehension of materials through one-to-onemeeting or in assists students to master course material by beingavailable through “office hours” and or small group sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QULIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, a master's degree in nursingpreferred
Experience:
  • Experience in Pediatrics or Medical/Surgical required
  • Two (2) years of experience in the clinical specialty area
  • Current knowledge in the area of clinical practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including theability to build successful relationships with studentpopulations.
  • Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills
  • Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and reportwriting skills)
  • Demonstrated clinical competency and professional standards ofpractice.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meetfrequently occurring deadlines.
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverseschool/campus constituents.
  • Ability to develop and complete projects without continueddirect supervision
  • Ability to learn from students’ participation, demonstratesfair and consistent behavior in all matters, and shows compassionwithout being ineffectual
  • Ability to perform with legal and ethical boundaries.
License/Certifications:
  • Unencumbered RN nursing License
  • Membership in a professional association related to area ofinstruction preferred.
