Job summary

South Louisiana Community College is seeking an adjunct Maritime instructor to provide and support classroom instruction for the Maritime program at SLCC Young Memorial Campus. Maintain labs, develop industry relations, and ensure course syllabi and materials are up to date. Apply with a U.S.

Coast Guard 500 Ton Master license (or higher), radar endorsement, and STCW compliance. Four years of maritime experience and a related associate degree preferred; pre-employment background and drug screen

Qualifications

• Valid U.S. Coast Guard 500 Ton Master license (or higher).
• Unlimited radar observer endorsement.
• Current STCW requirements.

Responsibilities

• Providing and supporting classroom instruction for the Maritime program.
• Maintaining a safe, orderly and up-to-date lab area for the application of multiple labs within the Maritime program.
• Developing and maintaining professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings.
• Maintaining classroom hours as listed on the course syllabus.
• Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional materials to students.
• Evaluating and reviewing students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
• Keeping appropriate records of testing and grading, as per college standards.
• Utilizing technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, communicate with others and facilitate learning.
• Maintaining student discipline through effective classroom management.
• Attaining, maintaining and reviewing program certification requirements, as appropriate.
• Fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with the South Louisiana Community College calendar and contractual obligations.
• Partner with Business and Industry to promote program.

Work Experience in the Oil & Gas Industry:

• Four years of full-time work experience in the Maritime Industry
• One full year of the above full-time work experience must have been served within the last two years

Preferred Education:

• Associate Degree

Passing pre-employment criminal background and drug screen are required as a condition of employment.
