Each course at Herzing University is thoughtfully designed to introduce new concepts, build upon prior knowledge, provide supportive resources, allow students to validate and remediate personal mastery of the content, and assess student development of competencies and learning objectives. Faculty members are responsible for guiding students through the learning process within a course.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree in a healthcare-related field
• At least one of the following certifications:
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA
  • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) through AHIMA
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC
• Current industry experience in a healthcare setting is required.
• Minimum of two years of healthcare operations experience related to insurance billing and medical coding.
• College-level teaching experience in insurance, billing, and medical coding.

Preferred Experience:

• At least two years of remote online teaching experience using LMS platforms such as Blackboard or Canvas.
• At least five years of related industry experience in coding.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the time and move readily around campus or clinical settings.
• Effective communication using spoken word.
• Visual and sensory assessments.
• Operate program-specific equipment.
• Travel to off-site meetings or clinical observations.
• Additional requirements for clinical components include standing/walking for extended periods, reaching, finger dexterity, normal vision and hearing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
