Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach on-campus in the School of Technology. Courses are offered each semester on an as-needed basis to help students achieve their educational goals.

Instructors will design, deliver, and assess instruction using common syllabi, maintain records, and support college policies. Pay is per contact hour, and benefits include comprehensive insurance and retirement options for eligible staff.

Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates will have experience with topics not limited to but including Safety, Electrical, Mechanical, Fluid Power, PLCs, Robotics, Vision Systems, HMIs, and VFDs.

Responsibilities

  • Create a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals and provide effective instruction and assessment.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning and employ appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Meet scheduled classes on campus and adhere to FERPA, policy and program requirements.
  • Contribute to syllabi, course outlines and program and division curriculum development.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and keep accurate records of progress and attendance.

Job description

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Mastery of Subject Matter

Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field or discipline. Connect subject matter with related fields. Stay current in subject matter through professional development.

Teaching Performance

Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs. Employ available instructional technology when appropriate. Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments. Communicate subject matter to students. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials. Support classroom efforts to promote student success.

Evaluation of Student Learning

Establish and adhere to learning objectives. Develop evaluation methods which fairly measure student progress toward objectives. Evaluate and return student work to promote maximum learning. Maintain accurate records of student progress. Submit final grade rosters, grade books and attendance rosters to division administrators each semester according to established deadlines.

Support of College Policies and Procedures

Meet scheduled classes in accordance with college policy. Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi approved course outlines for all assigned sections in

accordance with program and divisional policies.

Maintain confidentiality of student information. Exercise stewardship of College facilities and materials.

Participation in College, Division and Program Activities

Respond, in a timely fashion, to information requests from College, division and program administrators.Contribute, when appropriate, to program and division curriculum development processes.

Attend program, divisional and College meetings and events as feasible.

Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs

Maintain familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans. Contribute to planning and development processes where appropriate.

PAY RATE:
  • $45.50 per contact hour

Minimum Qualifications:

A qualified adjunct faculty member meets the education component of the School of Technology discipline standard through one of three routes:

1. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in technology, engineering, engineering technology; or an earned baccalaureate or higher degree directly related to the program’s discipline

And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR)

And, two years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR);

OR

2. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR)

And five years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR);

OR

3. Possesses an earned associate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution directly related to the program’s discipline

And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR)

And three years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR);

Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.

Classes for this position must be taught in-person on campus
