Job summary

Massasoit Community College seeks an adjunct HVAC faculty member to teach a range of HVAC/R courses in the Brockton area. Classes run 4:00pm–9:00pm, with potential weekend sessions 8:00am–4:00pm, on-site or off-site.

Responsibilities include classroom management, student engagement, and using CANVAS, BANNER, and other college systems. Applicants should have a bachelors (or compatible experience), HVAC certifications, and at least three years of teaching in HVAC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent experience.
• Certifications in HVAC/industry standards (EPA 608, NATE, HVAC Excellence, ASHRAE Designer, OSHA, R-410A).
• Minimum three years teaching or training HVAC courses, preferably in a community college.
• Experience teaching in online/hybrid models and using college systems.

• Supervise students, promote learning, participation, and professionalism.

This adjunct faculty position requires flexibility to teach a range of HVAC/R courses. Courses can be offered both on-site and off-site from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with the possibility of weekend courses that run from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities related to supporting student success such as managing a classroom, holding students accountable, and encouraging them with structured opportunities to develop their own proficiency. Successful candidates will be expected to develop fluency with online academic and administrative tools such as CANVAS, BANNER and other systems employed at the college.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Organizing and delivering class objectives in a clear, concise manner.


• Maintaining an orderly, controlled, and safe environment for our students in classrooms and labs; Ensuring training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and lab.


• Supervising and holding students accountable while promoting learning, participation, motivation, and professionalism.


• Testing, evaluating, and communicating performance and progress with students, supervisors, and other departments in a timely and accurate manner.


• Comfort with technology, both learning and diagnostic a must and willingness to teach with online and hybrid model courses.


• Meet and communicate with prospective partner companies as needed.

Adjunct Faculty are part-time instructors hired on an as-needed basis. Positions may consist of day, night, or weekend positions and maybe in Brockton, Canton, Middleborough, or any other instructional site.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelors required but will consider candidate with associate's degree plus significant experience in HVAC - heat pump and aquaponic technology.


• Industry certifications in: EPA Section 608 Certification, North American Technician Excellence, HVAC Excellence, ASHRAE's Certified HVAC Designer, OSHA Certificate, R-410A Certification, and Manufacturer-Specific Certifications.


• At least three years full or part-time teaching or training experience teaching a variety of HVAC courses, preferably in a community college setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10 years of work-related experience in HVAC/R, heat pumps, aquaponics, controlled environment systems.


• Experience in curriculum and course development as well as maintaining curriculum accuracy by keeping up-to-date on the industry.


• Fluency in using a variety of effective pedagogical strategies to promote student success.


• An interest and experience in working to develop and manage partnerships with area school districts and employers.


• A willingness to be involved in activities with the student body and interest in providing opportunities for students to extend learning outside of the classroom.


• Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.

• Hours Variable: Classes typically meet 3 - 5 hours per week.


• Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.

Salary: $1,512 per credit (step 1), with additional compensation for courses with a laboratory component, consistent with the DCE Collective Bargaining Agreement. *If hired for the position mid-semester, the salary will be pro-rated based on the number of weeks left in the semester.
