Job description

Adjunct Faculty, Functional Genomics

Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) seeks an adjunct instructor for the course GENE6140 Functional Genomics (Fall, 3 credits). The primary responsibility of the position is teaching.

Course Description

This course provides in‑depth, hands‑on training in using genome‑wide data to answer functional questions in biology. Students will gain experience in gene expression studies using polyA‑enriched RNA sequencing and analysis to identify differentially expressed genes. The course also covers the interaction between proteins and DNA in the context of ChIP‑seq experiments and chromatin conformation capture techniques. It culminates with a discussion of discoveries from major genomics initiatives such as the ENCODE project and the Epigenetics Roadmap.

Education and Experience
  • Minimumof a Master’s degree in a related field (doctoral degree strongly preferred).
  • Minimumof2years of teaching experience (active‑learning experience preferred).
  • Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.

  • Provide high‑quality student instruction.

Hours, Classification, and Status

This is a part‑time, exempt adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits. Schedules vary depending on course assignments and departmental needs. Base salary range: $2,500–$15,000 per semester, depending on credits awarded.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Maintain good concentration levels while dealing with interruptions.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy.
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, bend, and lift short distances up to 20lbs.
  • Travel locally as needed.
