Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to deliver assigned classes and foster student learning using the college’s policies and course objectives. Responsibilities include developing syllabi, utilizing instructional technology, and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or a related field.
• Has a state teaching license/certification or three years of elementary or secondary teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver assigned classes per college policy and course objectives.
• Utilize technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Develop and maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests and materials; maintain student records and grades.
• Engage with students to promote active learning and implement evidence-based teaching strategies.
• Monitor and document student performance; provide interventions, tutoring and referrals as needed.
• Interact professionally with students and co-workers and comply with college policies and guidelines.
• Ensure knowledge of and implementation of emergency and safety procedures in classrooms and labs.

Education

Master's degree in Education or related field

State teaching license/certification

Three years of elementary or secondary teaching experience

Job description

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
• Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
• Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
• Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
• Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
• Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

Education Program Standard

A qualified faculty member in education meets both of the following criteria:

• Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or a related field appropriate to the program, and
• Has one of the following:
  • Current or expired professional state teaching license/certification or
  • Three years of elementary or secondary teaching experience.

EDUC 224 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member teaching EDUC 224 meets the course standard through one of four routes:

• Meets the Education program standard, or
• Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Science Education, or
• Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education with 18 graduate or undergraduate hours in science, or
• Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in any natural or physical science, with one of the following:
  • Professional certification in education, or
  • Minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience

EDUC 235 & 245 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member teaching EDUC 235 and EDUC 245 meets the Education program standardandmeets the course standard by possessingoneof the following credentials (or is in progress and completed within 12 months of hire or date of credentialing change):

• MSJ Science of Reading Training Microcredential for Ivy Tech faculty OR
• Complete Cox Campus Structured Literacy Series Modules and complete the Cox Campus final Structured Literacy Exam Certificate OR
• Successful KPEERI Exam Completion OR
• Successful completion of Keys to Literacy (80 hours) OR
• Successful completion of Praxis #5205 OR
• Indiana Literacy Endorsement (added to teaching license) OR
• Upon Curriculum Committee review, equivalent or higher credential in Science of Reading, preferably from an IDA accredited institution, i.e Mt. St. Joseph or Marian University certificate, masters, doctorate, etc.
• Additional experience in special education is preferred.
