Job description

Purpose and Scope

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired in a part‑time capacity on a semester‑by‑semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. A role may be taught up to five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Teach chemistry courses at a variety of times and locations.
  2. Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  3. Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  4. Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  5. Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  6. Evaluate students to measure progress in achieving course objectives and inform students in a timely manner of their progress.
  7. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  8. Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  9. Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities

The work is primarily sedentary. The employee may perform occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items (e.g., papers, books), or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment includes a PC workstation on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the position functions.
  • Work is performed in a climate‑controlled classroom or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
  • Hours vary with class time; instructors must meet students outside of class instruction.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering, or a Master's with 18 graduate hours in chemistry.
Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
