Job summary

Vincennes University is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach private brass lessons and direct the Brass Ensemble on the Vincennes campus starting fall 2026-2027.

The candidate will deliver collegiate-level instruction for brass students, prepare them for recitals, and contribute to ensemble performances; an advanced degree in brass is required, with jazz knowledge a plus.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Music with major emphasis in Brass.
• Master’s degree in related field with at least 18 credit hours in Music (Brass).
• Knowledge of and experience teaching jazz is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach applied brass lessons for freshmen and sophomores.
• Prepare students for recitals, masterclasses, and juried assessments.
• Organize details and preparations for recitals or performances.
• Instruct and direct the Brass Ensemble.
• Coordinate details for Brass Ensemble concerts and performances.
• Participate in departmental recruitment activities as needed.
• Provide a quality learning experience aligning with course objectives.
• Teach and maintain courses per university policies.

Job description

The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department is seekingapplicants for a part-time position as Adjunct Instructor of Brassat the Vincennes campus beginning the fall 2026-2027 academic year.The successful candidate will be expected to provide collegiatelevel private instruction for brass students as well as instructand direct the Brass Ensemble.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Master's degree in Music (with majoremphasis in Brass) or a Master’s degree in a related field with aminimum of 18 credit hours in Music (with major emphasis in Brass). Knowledge of and experience teaching jazz is a plus.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

• Teach applied brass lessons (music major, pre-major, andelective levels) to freshmen and sophomore students.
• Prepare applied brass students for student recitals,masterclasses, midterm juried assessments, and end of semesterjuries.
• Organize all necessary details and preparations for recitals orother performances associated with the candidate’s appliedstudents.
• Instruct and direct the Brass Ensemble.
• Organize all necessary details and preparations for concertsand performances associated with the Brass Ensemble.
• Participate in departmental recruitment efforts and activitiesas needed.
• Provide a quality learning experience for all students inaccordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining thebasic integrity of course standards and objectives.
• Teach and maintain courses in accordance with university anddepartmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Extensive knowledge of the subject area the individual will be teaching. The instructor is expected to have extensive knowledge and training in brass instruments. Additional knowledge and experience in jazz (and/or rock, pop, and other playing styles) is encouraged.
• Ability to work with a variety of learning styles and skilllevels.
• Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challengesof community college students.
• Experience teaching in higher education (particularly communitycollege experience) is preferred but not required.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Ability to work in an ever-changing, fast-pacedenvironment.
