Job summary

Seminole State College of Florida is seeking adjunct faculty in Biology to teach assigned courses, prepare syllabi, deliver instruction, and assess student performance across campus settings. Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty are responsible for teaching assigned courses,which includes developing and posting syllabi, preparing anddelivering instruction, designing assignments and assessments,grading student work, and providing timely, constructive feedback.In addition, Adjunct Faculty are expected to engage in professionaldevelopment, effectively utilize the College’s Online LearningManagement System (CANVAS), and maintain open communication withstudents, colleagues, and supervisors. They may also contribute tocurriculum improvement efforts aimed at enhancing studentsuccess.

Essential Functions

1. The responsibility of Adjunct Faculty is to teach classes asassigned. Duties related to the teaching of a course include, butare not limited to, the following types of activities:
2. Developing a course syllabus in the format determined by theCollege and posting said syllabus to the College approved system bycollege posted deadlines.
3. Preparing for and delivering class, studio, clinical, or labinstruction; at days, times, modalities and locations determined bythe College.
4. Using assigned instructional materials to plan and deliverinstruction designed to enhance student learning.
5. Developing or modifying assignments, assessments and othercourse materials to support and evaluate student understanding ofcourse learning outcomes established in the course syllabus and perdepartment guidelines.
6. Grading student work and providing constructive feedback tostudents in a timely fashion, including resolution of incomplete ordisputed grades.
7. Participating in professional development opportunities offeredby the college and department.
8. Validating textbooks, posting course syllabi, class/graderosters, and submitting final student grades by establisheddeadlines
9. Remaining current with how to use the College’s Online LearningManagement System (currently CANVAS) as required by departmentalguidelines.
10. Responding in a timely fashion to communication from students,colleagues and supervisors
11. Meeting with students individually to review course work asneeded.
12. Adjunct faculty may work with other faculty in support ofcurricula improvement as appropriate to promote students' successand mastery of course and program competencies.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Biology

OR

Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with atleast 18 graduate hours in any combination of the following qualifying fields:

• Anatomy & Physiology
• Biochemistry
• Biology
• Biomedical Sciences
• Biotechnology
• Botany
• Conservation Biology
• Ecology
• Environmental Science
• Genetics
• Marine Biology
• Microbiology
• Molecular Biology
• Oceanography (with a Biology emphasis)
• Pharmacology (with a Biology emphasis)
• Zoology

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated understanding of the learning centered approach toteaching with teaching experience and professionalcertification.

Compensation & Support

Adjunct faculty are paid according to Seminole State College’sNon-Bargaining Unit Salary Schedule, based on theinstructor’s highest degree earned.
