POSITION SUMMARY

The adjunct faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality courses that support the institution’s mission and strategic goals. Teaching assignments are offered on an as-needed basis, depending on class size and semester availability. This role requires active engagement in the classroom, timely communication, and completion of assigned teaching training modules and tasks.

This is an onsite position in Minnesota.

KEY RESPONIBILITIES

At the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, all adjunct faculty members are responsible for two primary areas: teaching with effective pedagogy and classroom faith integration. This means delivering high-quality instruction that supports student learning outcomes, utilizing sound and engaging teaching practices, and fostering a Christ-centered learning environment through intentional faith integration appropriate to the discipline. These provide the framework for the following key responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned courses aligned with the institution’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Maintain a consistent, active and positive presence in the classroom, facilitating course content and engaging with students.
  • Monitor and participate in class discussions to promote interaction and learning.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries and concerns, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback in a timely manner; complete required teaching training modules.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • MFA or MA (and/or significant relevant professional experience) in Film or Media or related field.
  • Experience with directing, screenwriting, film history and theory or directing the actor for camera.
  • Commitment to integrating a Christian worldview into a classroom setting
  • Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community.

Nice to have:

  • Experience integrating Christian worldview into a classroom setting
  • Previous teaching experience on the subject matter at the undergraduate or graduate level, or in non-academic settings.

All Adjunct Faculty are responsible for providing their own computer and home internet connection. Northwestern will provide access to programs and resources required for fulfillment of teaching responsibilities for the duration of employment.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong time management and problem-solving abilities; able to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Written & Verbal Communication: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work during daytime class schedule and occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Background Check: Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
