General Description

The School of Communication seeks to hire an Adjunct. This is a non‑tenure earning position in the School of Communication. The appointment is for one academic term with no continuing contractual relationship. The role is intended for individuals with a Master’s degree in a specified discipline who can teach undergraduate courses. The appointments are temporary (OPS) faculty titles only.

Appointment Details
  • Appointment: Semester‑to‑semester basis as needed.
  • Anticipated start date: August 12, 2024.
  • Working hours: Part‑time.
  • Work schedule: Varies.
  • Supervision exercised: This is not a supervisory role.
Position Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned course(s) in accordance with the approved syllabus and course schedule.
  • Hold scheduled office hours for no less than one hour per week. Office hours can be virtual and scheduled by appointment.
About the Department

The School of Communication is dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge about human and mass‑mediated communication processes through high‑quality teaching, scholarship, and service to the community. It offers a B.S. in Communication with concentrations in advertising, digital video production, multimedia journalism, and public relations; and a B.A. in Communication Studies with focus on organizational and mediated communication. Our faculty combine professional experience with advanced degrees and offer students community‑based learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Communication or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Proficiency in communication and computer software usage.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching Media Theories and Effects courses at an undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching in a Learning Management System (LMS) platform, particularly the Canvas application.
