  • Doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related discipline with 15 graduate credits preferred.
  • Community College teaching experience preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience at college level or related teaching activities is valued.

Adjunct, Chemistry

Position Summary

Adjunct faculty teach courses as assigned based on disciplinary needs, educational background, and experience. Adjunct faculty develop and/or present course materials as requested by their supervisor and evaluate student progress in adherence with the core learning outcomes of assigned courses. Adjunct faculty are expected to adhere to College requirements, work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, and use varying teaching styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student mastery of core learning outcomes using the most relevant and scholarly and artistic tools and practices available in the discipline.
  • Actively engage students in critical thinking, meta‑cognitive processes, and advancement of critical essential communication skills.
  • Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.
  • Model and cultivate open‑minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem‑solving.
  • Maintain currency in academic discipline and pedagogy.
  • Submit syllabi and other instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and, when appropriate, use the Student Success Alert notification process.
  • Assess student work in a timely manner and submit course grades by the posted deadline.
  • Online course instructors will respond to student email inquiries within 24–36 hours.
  • Use the FCC email account provided for them to communicate with the College, faculty, staff, and students, and share this information with their students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in chemistry or a master’s degree in a similar discipline with at least 15 graduate credit hours in chemistry or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated strong public speaking, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree (or other terminal degree) in chemistry or a closely related discipline, and at least 15 graduate credit hours in chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Community College teaching experience.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate prior teaching experience, which may include college‑level instruction, graduate teaching assistantships, or other related teaching experience.
