Purpose

We are seeking a highly experienced AM Machine Technician to join our advanced manufacturing team. This role requires deep technical expertise in additive manufacturing processes, including machine setup, troubleshooting, powder handling, and post-processing. As a subject matter expert (SME), you will support the training and development of junior technicians, act as a backup to the Lead Technician, and help ensure excellence in part quality, equipment maintenance, and shop floor safety. While not a formal leadership position, this role is vital to driving technical best practices and operational efficiency across AM operations.

Schedule: This is a 3–4 x10 rotating shift alternating Wednesday to Saturday or Sunday to Wednesday, 5:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

The Role

Technical Expertise

  • Set up, operate, monitor, and maintain AM machines according to established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common technical issues, escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Perform all core AM tasks including powder handling, sieving, depowdering, heat treat, bandsaw, and media blast.

Quality & Process Support

  • Follow process documentation to ensure part and process quality standards are met.
  • Conduct in-process checks and support process improvements where applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safe handling of materials and equipment.

Shift Support & Communication

  • Maintain detailed notes on key shift events, communicating clearly with the next shift to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Provide informal guidance and support to less experienced technicians when questions arise.
  • Act as a go-to resource for troubleshooting common AM machine or process issues.

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing

  • Support onboarding of new technicians by demonstrating proper procedures and safe practices.
  • Share expertise and help coach team members on tools, workflows, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining training materials and work instructions as needed.

Operational Awareness

  • Monitor shift progress and identify any equipment or material issues early.
  • Support supervisors and leads by offering technical input on machine status or operator performance when requested.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., maintenance, engineering) to support production goals.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in Additive Manufacturing, preferably in a production setting.
  • Experience in aerospace or automotive AM environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality standards is a plus.
  • Experience with highly technical equipment such as MRI, CT, Xray, PLC Processing equipment, Vacuum Ovens.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining AM equipment and related post-processing tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to support and mentor peers.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail, safety-conscious, and dependable.

Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, kneeling, walking, climbing, and machine operation in a factory setting.

Must be able to lift 30+ lbs and perform hands-on physical tasks safely.

Compensation

At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels TCH 04 - TCH 05 as evaluated through our interview process.

  • Technician / TCH 04: $29-$40/hour
  • Senior Technician / TCH 05: $32-$44/hour

Pay Range: $29 USD - $44 USD
