Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Monroe, NC, USA is seeking an AM Process Engineer to develop, validate, and sustain additive manufacturing processes. You will define the process architecture within MES, lead process qualifications, and create standardized templates for production execution to ensure stable, capable manufacturing aligned with SPQDC objectives.

The role requires hands-on experience with laser powder bed fusion, MES workflows, and IQ/OQ/MQ qualifications.

Qualifications

  • University degree or advanced degree with required years of experience.
  • Experience with laser powder bed fusion metal AM, including process parameters and machine function.
  • Experience developing, validating, or sustaining manufacturing processes with documentation and workflow control.
  • 2+ years of MES, process architecture, or digital manufacturing workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Own MES architecture for AM processes and setup.
  • Define and maintain AM process parameters and controls.
  • Execute IQ/OQ/MQ qualifications for equipment and processes.
  • Lead SPC tracking and process capability analyses.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and guide parameter validation.
  • Develop build layouts and optimized manufacturing processes.
  • Create standardized templates for production execution.
  • Collaborate with Materials Scientists to align parameters with materials.
  • Work with Quality Engineering on nonconformance investigations.
  • Integrate process logic and SPC data with digital tools via MES.
  • Drive continuous improvement to increase yield, stability and SPQDC alignment.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Job Summary

In this highly technical and process‑focused role, you will develop, implement, validate, and sustain additive manufacturing processes to ensure stable, capable, and controlled production aligned with SPQDC objectives. You will define and maintain process architecture within MES, lead process qualifications, and create standardized process templates that guide production execution.

Responsibilities
  • Own MES usage architecture for AM processes, including standard operations, workflows, and process plan setup.
  • Define and maintain AM process parameters, specifications, and controlled process documentation.
  • Execute and document IQ, OQ, and MQ qualifications for equipment and processes.
  • Lead SPC tracking, process capability analysis, and performance monitoring.
  • Support production builds by troubleshooting process issues, validating parameter sets, and providing technical guidance.
  • Develop build layouts, optimized manufacturing processes, and cell‑level process designs.
  • Generate and maintain Golden Files for NPI Gate 4 activities.
  • Lead PPAP‑related process inputs including Control Plans, PFMEAs, process flow diagrams, and validation evidence.
  • Create standardized, reusable process templates for production execution.
  • Collaborate with Materials Scientists to align process parameters with material behaviors within MES.
  • Work closely with Quality Engineering on nonconformance investigations, root‑cause analysis, corrective actions.
  • Provide technical input to Operations for work instructions, technician readiness, build setups, and troubleshooting.
  • Align with Digital Systems & SIOP Lead to integrate process logic, SPC data, and system automation into digital tools and MES.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance process capability, yield, stability, and SPQDC alignment.
  • Travel up to 10%.
Qualifications (Must Have)
  • University Degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with laser powder bed fusion metal additive manufacturing, including process parameters, controls, and machine functionality.
  • 3+ years of experience developing, validating, or sustaining manufacturing processes, including documentation, workflow control, and troubleshooting.
  • 2+ years of experience with MES, process architecture, or digital manufacturing workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in science, engineering, materials science, or related field.
  • Experience with process validation activities (IQ/OQ/MQ), PFMEA, Control Plans, or PPAP‑related documentation.
  • Familiarity with AM or special process specifications and standards (e.g., AMS, NASA‑STD).
  • Hands‑on experience with SPC tools and process‑health monitoring.
  • Experience with traditional manufacturing processes involving metals and troubleshooting process variability.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively cross‑functionally and communicate technical information clearly.
