Job summary

GreenWood, Inc. is seeking an Additive Manufacturing Maintenance Technician to keep metal AM equipment safe, reliable, and efficient. You will install, commission, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair gear while documenting calibrations and parts usage.

Collaboration with operations, engineering, quality, EHS, and OEM partners is essential to improve performance and meet safety standards. The role requires hands-on maintenance, OEM-aligned preventive plans, and strong documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, drawings, manuals, and technical documents.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and systematically troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for OEM training and occasional technical support assignments.
  • Experience supporting a positive safety culture.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Job description

Position Summary

The Additive Manufacturing Maintenance Technician ensures metal additive manufacturing equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. The technician installs, commissions, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment; performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance; and documents service work, calibration results, and parts usage. The technician also works with operations, engineering, quality, EHS, and OEM partners to resolve equipment issues, complete upgrades, improve performance, and meet safety and quality requirements.

Position Responsibilities - Essential
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on metal additive manufacturing equipment
  • Conduct semi-annual and annual maintenance activities in accordance with OEM requirements and internal maintenance procedures
  • Conduct thorough inspections and testing to verify that equipment meets applicable quality and safety requirements
  • Properly document safety-related findings and communicate issues requiring additional engineering, EHS, or OEM support
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, calibration results, inspections, and equipment issues
  • Maintain equipment service histories and communicate maintenance status to relevant stakeholders
  • Document recurring failures and recommend corrective or preventive actions
  • Maintain accurate records of OEM service activities and equipment upgrades
  • Follow all applicable facility safety procedures and requirements when working on AM equipment
  • Manage AM maintenance tools, specialty tooling, calibration equipment, and service resources
  • Maintain appropriate spare-parts inventory for supported AM equipment
  • Provide technical support for AM equipment as needed
  • Support continuous improvement activities intended to improve AM machine performance, reliability, uptime, and maintainability
  • Monitor critical spare parts and identify potential shortages or long lead time items
  • Ensure maintenance tools and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and available when needed
  • Inspect equipment to identify worn, damaged, or degraded components and determine the appropriate repair or replacement requirements
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and equipment performance issues
  • Diagnose equipment failures and perform repairs to restore equipment functionality and reliability
  • Perform required equipment calibrations and verification activities
  • Maintain calibration records and ensure equipment remains within required specifications
  • Identify equipment performance deviations and work with engineering and/or OEM personnel to determine appropriate corrective actions
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, quality, EHS, and other technical personnel to resolve equipment issues
  • Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
  • GreenWood has designated this as a "safety-sensitive" position
Position Responsibilities - Non-Essential/Other
  • Assist with installing and commissioning additive manufacturing equipment at the CMC facility in accordance with OEM specifications and established procedures
  • Assist with equipment acceptance, commissioning, and qualification activities
  • Identify and resolve installation-related issues to ensure equipment is fully operational and ready for production
  • Assist with installing and implementing OEM-recommended hardware and software upgrades
  • Perform mechanical and electrical installation, connection, testing, and functional verification of AM equipment
  • Coordinate with OEM technical support organizations when troubleshooting complex equipment issues
  • Maintain current knowledge of OEM service procedures, equipment updates, and recommended maintenance practices
  • Attend OEM and other technical training as required to maintain proficiency with current and emerging AM equipment technologies
  • Develop and maintain the technical knowledge necessary to safely work with metal powders, lasers/electron beams, high-voltage systems, electrical equipment, compressed gases, vacuum systems, and other AM-related hazards, as applicable to the equipment supported
  • Develop and maintain appropriate MESH/EHS-related skills and capabilities to support equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance internally where appropriate, reducing reliance on outside service providers
  • Stay current with developments in metal additive manufacturing equipment and technologies relevant to the machines operated at the facility
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, including 800-hour maintenance on electron beam (EB) machines and other OEM-defined service intervals
  • Perform Smart Cal laser calibration, OT calibration, and other machine-specific calibration procedures as required
  • Perform other duties and technical assignments as required
Essential Skills and Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience performing equipment installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance
  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex industrial equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and systematically troubleshoots equipment problems
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel for OEM training and occasional technical support assignments
  • Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
Beneficial Skills and Experience
  • Greater than three (3) years of experience performing equipment installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance
  • Experience maintaining Additive Manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), electron beam melting (EBM), or other metal AM technologies
  • Experience with laser systems, electron beam systems, vacuum systems, inert-gas systems, powder-handling systems, filtration systems, cooling systems, or associated AM equipment
  • Experience performing OEM-specific AM machine calibration and maintenance
  • Experience with laser calibration or machine optical calibration procedures
  • Experience with software and hardware upgrades on industrial equipment
  • Experience working with high-voltage electrical systems and industrial controls
  • Experience with PLCs, sensors, drives, motors, industrial networking, or machine controls
  • MESH/EHS experience, particularly related to industrial equipment, hazardous energy, metal powders, lasers, high voltage, compressed gases, or similar hazards
  • Experience managing maintenance spare parts and technical tooling
  • Experience working directly with OEM field service organizations
