Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. in New York City and greater New York Area is seeking a Physician (MD) to deliver coordinated primary medical care for addiction and substance-related disorders under Medical Director supervision.

This on-site role requires a medical degree, licensure, 1–3 years of relevant experience, and the ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team. Willingness for on-call coverage evenings/weekends is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Medical School.
• 1-3 years of experience with substance abuse populations; addiction medicine fellowship possible.
• No investigations or sanctions by federal/state bodies; valid medical license.
• Able to provide flexible coverage and on-call 24-hour support as needed.
• Knowledge of OASAS/OMH/DOHMH/CSAT guidance and related regulations.
• Familiar with medical management of HIV/Hepatitis C and co-occurring conditions.
• Proficient with EMR and standard office software; strong communication skills.
• Able to work with multidisciplinary teams and diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct admission and annual physical examinations.
• Evaluate client medical symptoms and health needs.
• Provide follow-up on chronic and acute conditions.
• Perform initial SUD assessment to determine treatment eligibility.
• Provide substance misuse counseling and evaluate medications for addiction treatment.
• Monitor abstinence or tapering during treatment.
• Offer on-call service to respond to client symptoms and staff questions.
• Adhere to professional standards and complete required forms timely.
