We are seeking an experienced ADAS Systems Engineer responsible for defining, developing, and validating vehicle-level performance targets for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This role will establish core performance objectives using competitive benchmarking, customer expectations, industry standards, and technical expertise.
The engineer will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, simulation teams, test engineering, calibration teams, and system suppliers to develop and validate ADAS performance across production and future vehicle programs.
The role will also support competitive vehicle assessments, performance benchmarking, requirements management, validation planning, and technical development of ADAS features.
Key Responsibilities
- Define core performance targets and objectives for ADAS features based on competitive benchmarking, customer expectations, industry trends, and engineering knowledge.
- Conduct competitive benchmarking and vehicle assessments of ADAS systems and features across key automotive competitors.
- Develop and validate vehicle-level ADAS performance across production and future vehicle applications.
- Support the development of ADAS performance requirements and translate vehicle targets into measurable technical requirements.
- Work with ADAS functional science and simulation teams to improve virtual requirement and performance simulation capabilities and apply them to vehicle programs.
- Develop and support core validation plans for ADAS test and validation engineering teams.
- Support the definition of virtual and experimental ADAS performance development plans through integrated test planning processes.
- Identify performance gaps between current vehicle behavior and established targets and define appropriate corrective actions.
- Collect and analyze objective vehicle data to quantify subjective driving impressions and identify gaps against performance targets.
- Conduct impact assessments for product, system, software, and feature changes affecting ADAS performance.
- Support ADAS system calibration activities in collaboration with internal engineering teams and external system suppliers.
- Identify and resolve cross-functional technical issues affecting vehicle-level ADAS performance.
- Support target-setting and performance waterfall processes beginning with the Customer Car Profile and Target Vehicle definition.
- Prepare vehicles, technical materials, and performance data for leadership ride-and-drive events and vehicle demonstrations.
- Develop ADAS feature knowledge and contribute to future technology roadmaps and performance strategies.
- Identify gaps in processes, tools, requirements, and technical capabilities within a rapidly growing organization and develop solutions.
- Support performance engineers and cross-functional teams in defining and executing ADAS development activities.
- Travel domestically and internationally for vehicle benchmarking, development, testing, and validation activities.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited or equivalent university.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in ADAS product development.
- Strong understanding of automotive ADAS systems, vehicle performance, and feature development.
- Knowledge of competitive automotive ADAS systems, market trends, and applicable safety protocols and standards, including NCAP, IIHS, and NHTSA.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret vehicle test data and identify performance gaps.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Google Docs, Sheets, and related productivity tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-changing environment and adapt to evolving business and technical priorities.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for 1–2 week development trips as required.
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to operate development and test vehicles on public roadways.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience with advanced ADAS technologies, including familiarity with Tesla FSD or ADAS technologies from the Chinese automotive market.
- Experience working with premium or luxury automotive brands, preferably 2+ years.
- Understanding of vehicle development milestones and electrical/electronic architecture.
- Strong understanding of the V-model development process, requirements management, and requirements traceability.
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and vehicle engineering parameters that influence ADAS performance.
- Experience with ADAS calibration, validation, simulation, and vehicle-level testing.
- Experience working with automotive suppliers and cross-functional engineering organizations.
- Experience developing competitive benchmarks and translating benchmark results into measurable engineering targets.
