Job summary

Fort Madison Community School District is seeking a substitute teacher to provide instruction, manage a safe and nurturing environment, and support students' academic and emotional development. You will follow lesson plans, maintain classroom routines, and communicate effectively with staff.

This role requires Iowa teaching or substitute licenses, flexibility to work across all grade levels, and a positive, energetic approach.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Iowa teaching license, valid substitute teaching license or a valid substitute authorization.
• Prefer a willingness to be available to in all levels across the district.
• Previous successful substitute experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
• Maintain a climate that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Maintain an effective level of communication with staff and students.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Must be an innovative, passionate, and energetic individual.
• Required to use the district time management system, TCP, for accepting substitute positions, clocking in and approving and verifying hours.
• Must maintain an acceptable standard of professionalism while a sub in the district.
• Use appropriate language and tone when speaking with students and staff.
• Avoid gossip or negative comments about the regular teacher or students.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by executing school emergency procedures and protocols effectively during drills and real emergencies.
• Reports to the Building Principal.
• Must adhere to substitute handbook, board policies and building expectations.
