The role assists with positioning, transfers, showering and dressing, maintains a clean therapy environment, and helps with transportation, scheduling and equipment projects. This non-exempt position follows a 187-day-per-year schedule, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Rehab experience preferred but not required.
  • Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • To assist therapists as needed during treatment sessions with students in the water and outside of the pool.
  • Maintain clean work environment and sanitizing equipment after student use.
  • To position, transfer, shower, and dress students as needed before and after aquatic therapy sessions.
  • To provide necessary documentation for attendance and programming. Assist with scheduling as needed.
  • To assist students daily during transportation in the morning and afternoon.
  • To order supplies and equipment when needed.
  • Assist Rehab Tech with equipment projects and deliveries. Build, clean and repair rehab equipment as needed
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma
Lifeguard certification (preferred)

ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

Located in the heart of Oakland, Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children is a one-of-a-kind educational experience committed to empowering our students to realize their full potential. The School also provides vital early intervention and outreach services to visually impaired students, with or without additional challenges, throughout western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1887, our School is best equipped to care for and educate students with visual impairments. As a private institution chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the School educates approximately 200 enrolled students from 80-85 school districts within western Pennsylvania.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatic Physical Therapy Aide supports the Physical Therapy team in providing safe, effective aquatic therapy services to students with complex needs. The role assists therapists during treatment sessions, including helping with student positioning, transfers, showering, and dressing before and after pool activities, while also maintaining a clean and sanitized therapy environment. The aide also supports student transportation, attendance and program documentation, scheduling, supply ordering, and rehabilitation equipment projects, including building, cleaning, and repairing equipment as needed.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Working Schedule: 187 days per year; Monday through Friday from 7:30a-3:30p.

Compensation: to be determined based on education, experience, and certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, transfer, and assist participants throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely assist participants with mobility and personal care needs.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.
