Job summary

North Harbor, part of the DCH Health System, specializes in acute inpatient psychiatric treatment on the Northport campus. The unit serves adults and geriatrics with daily psychiatry oversight and a multidisciplinary team approach to care.

The Staff Nurse will supervise non-licensed staff, coordinate education, and ensure high standards of safety and quality while supporting patient recovery in a secure setting.

Qualifications

• Current Alabama RN license or multi-state license required.
• Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required.
• BSN preferred, minimum Associate's degree required.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
• ACLS and PALS are required for certain units within 6 months of start.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient condition on admission and ongoing to cover physical, psychological, social, spiritual and cultural needs.
• Plans, provides, and documents patient education based on identified barriers to learning.
• Evaluates and reevaluates patient care; coordinates care planning with patient, family and providers.
• Assigns and delegates nursing care to team members based on patient needs.
• Applies safety principles when performing care and documents changes to the care plan.
• Provides handoff reports and participates in unit huddles.
• Supports performance improvement (PI) activities and PI measures.
