The Schukar Unit is an intimate acute medicine unit with a capacity of 13 adult patients. Our nurses care for patients with complex medical conditions, including renal, endocrine, neurological, GI/GU, pulmonary, infectious disease, and cardiology issues.

Acute Medicine RNs provide high-quality care for patients with various acute conditions, working closely with physicians and healthcare teams to deliver effective treatment.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is Missouri's largest hospital, ranked among the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Schukar department handles patients arriving through the Patient Placement Center, originating from various hospital services, excluding L&D, vented, ICU, and labor/delivery patients. It provides services including outpatient procedures, blood draws, tube removals, and minor outpatient surgeries, primarily for adult patients. The unit operates Monday 0700 to Saturday 1900, with on-call staff available at all times.
Role Purpose: To provide direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within nursing standards.
Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
Experience: No experience required; Supervisor Experience: None required
Licenses & Certifications: RN license
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Experience: Less than 2 years
