The Schukar Unit is an intimate acute medicine unit with 13 beds, caring for adults with complex medical conditions including renal, endocrine, neurological, GI/GU, pulmonary, infectious disease, and cardiology issues.

Position Highlights

• Additional PTO for experienced RNs

• OR $15,000 Sign-On Bonus plus $15,000 Loan Repayment for experienced RNs

Acute Medicine RNs provide high-quality care for patients with acute medical conditions, working closely with physicians and healthcare professionals to deliver effective treatment.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is Missouri's largest hospital, ranked among the top hospitals nationally by U.S. News & World Report. It is a Magnet Hospital recognized for nursing excellence.

The Schukar department admits patients through the Patient Placement Center, including pre and post-procedure patients, outpatient blood draws, and minor outpatient procedures. The patient population is adult. The unit operates Monday at 0700 to Saturday at 1900, with RN and tech on call when closed. All patients must be admitted via the Patient Placement Center. We do not accept vented, ICU, or labor and delivery patients.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, within nursing standards.

Responsibilities

• Promote patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educate patients and families on managing illness, including post-treatment care and medication administration.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engage in professional development.
• Develop, implement, and document individualized care plans with goals, collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family.
• Use critical nursing skills to assess physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs, considering patient preferences and barriers to involvement.
• This is a safety-sensitive position requiring alertness and safe work practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
• Experience: None required
• Licenses & Certifications: RN license

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
