Job summary

Pulmonary Medicine Associates (PMA), serving the greater Sacramento area for over 50 years, currently has an opening for an Advanced Practice Provider to join our hospital ICU care team. This is a full-time float position and night shifts are required. Training provided.

APNs will work closely with physicians to deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients, perform histories and exams, order and interpret studies, and participate in rounds and discharge planning.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited ARNP program.
  • Current California NP license; ACNP preferred.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • DAE certificate without restriction.
  • ACLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to hospital ICU patients under physician supervision.
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physicals for critically ill adults.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for acute conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate labs, radiology, and tests.
  • Prescribe medications, fluids, and other therapies within scope.
  • Monitor ventilator management and participate in rounds.
  • Discharge planning and transitions of care.

  • Under the general supervision of a physician, provide care to hospital ICU patients using established protocols as required by PMA and Hospital policy.
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations for critically ill adult patients.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with acute, complex, and life‑threatening conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe medications, blood products, fluids, and other therapies within scope of practice.
  • Perform invasive procedures
  • Monitor ventilator management in collaboration with respiratory therapy and intensivists.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Respond to rapid response and code blue activations as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding treatment plans, prognosis, and goals of care.
  • Collaborate with consulting specialists and ancillary services to coordinate patient care.
  • Document patient assessments, treatment plans, procedures, and progress notes in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure compliance with evidence-based practice guidelines, quality initiatives, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, peer review, and clinical education.
  • Assist with discharge planning and transitions of care when appropriate.
  • Maintain continuing education and competency requirements.
ACNP Duties Include

Requirements
Education/Licensure/Certifications
  • Graduate of Accredited School offering an Advanced Degree in Nurse Practice (ARNP)
  • Current, unrestricted California NP license ACNP preferred
  • Current Board certification in relevant specialty
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction
  • ACLS required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of critical care medicine and pathophysiology.
  • Strong clinical decision‑making and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple critically ill patients simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in interpreting ECGs, ABGs, imaging studies, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in rapidly changing clinical situations.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to evidence‑based practice and patient‑centered care.
