Job summary

Pulmonary Medicine Associates (PMA) in Northern California is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join the hospital ICU care team in the Greater Sacramento area. This full-time float position requires night shifts and offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits.

You will work closely with physicians to treat critically ill adults, perform histories and exams, develop treatment plans, and participate in rounds with training provided.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program offering an Advanced Degree in Nurse Practice (ARNP).
  • Current, unrestricted California NP license; ACNP preferred.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty and a valid DEA certificate.
  • ACLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Under physician supervision, care for ICU patients using established protocols.
  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams for critically ill adults.
  • Assess, diagnose, and plan treatment for acute, complex cases.
  • Order, interpret labs, imaging, and other studies.
  • Prescribe medications, blood products, fluids, within scope.
  • Perform invasive procedures and monitor ventilator management.
  • Participate in daily rounds and develop individualized care plans.
  • Respond to rapid responses and code activations as assigned.
  • Coordinate care with consultants and ancillary services.
  • Document assessments, plans, procedures, and progress notes in EMR.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Assist with discharge planning and transitions of care.
  • Maintain continuing education and competency.

ACNP Duties Include
  • Under the general supervision of a physician, provide care to hospital ICU patients using established protocols as required by PMA and Hospital policy.
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations for critically ill adult patients.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with acute, complex, and life-threatening conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe medications, blood products, fluids, and other therapies within scope of practice.
  • Perform invasive procedures
  • Monitor ventilator management in collaboration with respiratory therapy and intensivists.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Respond to rapid response and code blue activations as assigned.
  • Provide consultation regarding critical care management.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding treatment plans, prognosis, and goals of care.
  • Collaborate with consulting specialists and ancillary services to coordinate patient care.
  • Document patient assessments, treatment plans, procedures, and progress notes in the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure compliance with evidence-based practice guidelines, quality initiatives, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, peer review, and clinical education.
  • Assist with discharge planning and transitions of care when appropriate.
  • Maintain continuing education and competency requirements.
Requirements
Education/Licensure/Certifications
  • Graduate of Accredited School offering an Advanced Degree in Nurse Practice (ARNP)
  • Current, unrestricted California NP license ACNP preferred
  • Current Board certification in relevant specialty
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction
  • ACLS required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of critical care medicine and pathophysiology.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple critically ill patients simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in interpreting ECGs, ABGs, imaging studies, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in rapidly changing clinical situations.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centered care.
