Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals.

Recognized for excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Acute Care Medicine manages patients with a full range of clinical issues—from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, cystic fibrosis—and many other conditions and diseases. Due to patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning. Each unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse, supported by an advanced practice nurse. Additionally, each unit has a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist. This multidisciplinary team collaborates with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to deliver quality patient care.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of nursing care standards.

Responsibilities
  1. Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  2. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
  3. Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with defined goals, collaborating with the interprofessional team and patient, family, or caregiver, in accordance with established standards.
  4. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Considers patient preferences, values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
  5. This is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is essential.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Experience: No experience required
  • Licenses & Certifications: RN license
Preferred Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
