Job summary

Capital Health is seeking an experienced First Assistant to support cardiac and vascular surgeries and to collaborate with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The role involves assisting on the General Floor and in the Surgical ICU, and monitoring patients in the Cardiovascular CCU in coordination with cardiology colleagues.

The position requires strong aseptic technique, ability to prepare and position patients, and skilled use of surgical instruments including electrocautery.

Qualifications

• Serves as First Assist during cardiac and vascular procedures to ensure patient safety and outcomes.
• Collaborates with attending physicians to provide care on the General Floor and in the Surgical ICU.
• Monitors and manages patients in Cardiovascular CCU in collaboration with cardiology teams.
• Performs individualized surgical care management before, during and after surgery.

Responsibilities

• Assist during cardiac and vascular surgeries, including tissue retraction and exposure.
• Position, prep, and drape patients as directed by the surgeon; assist with hemostasis.
• Use electrocautery and other instruments as directed by the surgical team.
• Assist with closure of incisions and wound dressing; document the procedure details.
• Maintain asepsis and infection control; participate in resuscitation if needed.
• Communicate plan of care and test results to the patient and family.
