Job summary

Venerable is seeking a Financial Planning and Analysis Actuarial Manager to join the Controllership team, focusing on actuarial analysis and financial reporting. You will collaborate with actuaries across Finance and Risk to improve analytics and reporting quality.

You will lead a team, drive process improvements, and partner with stakeholders to explain the story behind results and ensure regulatory and internal requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or related discipline.
• FSA or Career ASA designation required.
• 7+ years financial, insurance industry, or actuarial experience.
• Excellent analytical skills and deep knowledge of insurance products, regulations, or insurance company structure.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts across audiences; internally and externally.
• Ability to challenge current methodologies and develop solutions; manage priorities and deadlines.
• Managerial experience required: lead, coach and advise team members.
• Willingness to grow and gain expertise in related areas such as accounting standards.

Job description

As a Financial Planning and Analysis Actuarial Manager you will be an integral part of Venerable’s Controllership team, which holds responsibility for actuarial analysis, and financial reporting. This position will collaborate with actuaries in the Finance and Risk departments, including Valuation, Hedging, RBC, Capital Projections, Investment Risk and Analytics. Additionally, this role is expected to implement solutions that contribute to quality improvements and work process effectiveness.

Primary responsibilities:

• Prepare and assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with key business partners throughout the organization to improve the level of analytics and the timeliness of them, towards explaining the story behind results more effectively.
• Evaluate the company financial models to better compare actual results.
• Implement ways to better streamline financial data.
• Support technology initiatives that will improve efficiency and enhance control of financial analytics.
• Work on corporate projects and initiatives that supports the strategy of the company.
• Assist accounting teams in the state insurance department and regulatory requests on financial projections.
• Lead and develop team, by effective goal setting, coaching and feedback.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or related business discipline
  FSA or Career ASA
• 7+ years financial, insurance industry, or actuarial experience
• Excellent analytical skills and deep knowledge of insurance products, regulations, or insurance company structure from prior experience in roles such as pricing, modeling, valuation, risk management, inforce management, experience studies, hedging
• Ability to appropriately and professionally communicate complex concepts across multiple and varied audiences; internally and externally
• Ability to use own knowledge to challenge current methodologies/approaches and develop and execute on solutions to complex actuarial problems
  Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
• Managerial experience required. Able to lead, coach and advise team members.
• Strong desire to learn and grow; shows willingness to gain expertise in other areas, including but not limited to accounting standards, besides current areas of expertise to strengthen overall.
