Job summary

The Mutual Group in Des Moines, IA is seeking an Actuarial Intern to gain hands-on experience in pricing and reserving across multiple lines of business. You will work with credentialed actuaries and contribute to real-world actuarial projects.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree in actuarial science or related field, with strong analytic and communication skills, and an interest in pursuing actuarial exams; hybrid/in-office training options available.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with SQL, Python, R, Power BI or similar tools is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex info clearly.

Responsibilities

• Support pricing, reserving, and other actuarial functions through data-driven analysis.
• Gather, validate, and organize data used in actuarial models and business decisions.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial reports, tools, and documentation.
• Analyze trends, identify insights, and communicate findings to the team and partners.
• Collaborate with experienced actuaries on projects influencing business strategy and underwriting.
