Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County is seeking an Activity Leader to plan, teach, and supervise after-school activities across Education, SEL, STEAM, and Physical Education. You will ensure safe, engaging programs and support youth in meeting development outcomes.

Responsibilities include lesson planning, program evaluation, staff meetings, safety compliance, and community outreach to recruit members. The role emphasizes mentorship and positive youth development within a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have proof of High School graduation or GED (Diploma or Transcripts).
• Must provide Negative TB test results or Assessment test completed within the last 4 years.
• Must have at least 48 semester college units/68 quarter units or have a paraprofessional certification.
• Ability to read, write, spell, understand, and assist with math calculations/problems and assist with homework at all grade levels.
• Experience in working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
• Ability to effectively interact with the public.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Youth for Success: Create an environment that facilitates Youth Development Outcomes and promote program participation.
• Assist in recruiting new members and provide guidance and role modeling to members.
• Ensure a productive work environment: attend weekly staff meetings, complete mandated reporting documents, monitor safety and program quality.
• Program Development and Implementation: Plan, teach, implement and submit lesson plans; apply Youth Development Strategy; provide positive redirection.
• ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in special programs/events; oversee events; assume other duties as assigned.
• RELATIONSHIPS: Maintain internal/external contacts to promote the program and safety.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area such as Education, Social Emotional Learning, Virtual Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, Physical Education, Safety, Sanitation and STEAM.

• Understand and Implement Knowledge Library resources and its functions. Promote and stimulate program participation
• Assist in recruiting new members
• Provide guidance and role modeling to members

Ensure a productive work environment:

• Participate in weekly After School Program staff meetings
• Attend all site meetings
• Complete Child Protective Services and Mandated Reporting documents
• Read, sign, and abide by monthly safety topics
• Monitor and evaluate programs, environment, services, and activities by actively engaging to ensure safety of staff and members
• Assess programs and the appearance of all areas of the After School Program

Program Development and Implementation:

• Plan, create, teach, implement, and administer programs, services, and activities for members and visitors
• Create and submit lesson plans and/or scheduled activities to immediate supervisor as required
• Read and write without assistance
• Implement daily lesson plans and scheduled activities
• Apply BGCKC Youth Development Strategy
• Implement and teach transition strategies
• Provide BGCKC and District positive redirection strategies
• Prepare and submit periodic reports as directed
• Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of the After School Program at all times
• Monitor and review ADP on a weekly basis to review, read, and sign documents as provided
• Follow all BGCKC and individual school district policies and procedures
• Ability to supervise a minimum of 20 children in a safe environment independently.

• Contribute to environment of safety through the learning and implementation and monitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures.
• Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to all safety rules and practices and proactive communication among members, parents, peers, and leadership.
• Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.
• Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols including drills and communication practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participate in special programs and/or events
2. Utilize customer service model - LEARN Model - to help resolve issues regarding clients and stakeholders
3. Oversee special programs and/or events (e.g. Lights on After School, Parent Night, Back to School night), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary
4. Assume other duties as assigned

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel. Adhere to BGCKC Code of Conduct at all times

External: Maintain contact with schools, members' parents, and others to assist in publicizing the After School Program and resolving problems with Club managers
