Job summary

Franklin Park Boerne is seeking an activities professional to lead a comprehensive program of recreational, intellectual, psycho-social and spiritual activities for residents. You will create calendars, newsletters, and structured activity plans while supporting residents in self-directed activities and leadership roles.

This role requires a warm, engaging personality and formal training in therapeutic recreation or activities, with a minimum of two years in health care or elder communities.

Qualifications

  • An upbeat, engaging personality
  • Formal training in therapeutic recreation or activities
  • Minimum two years’ experience in health care or elder community
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work hard to achieve excellence
  • Certification by an accrediting body such as the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation or the National Association of Activity Professionals is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a comprehensive program of recreational, intellectual, psycho-social and spiritual activities
  • Lead activities as needed, from brain fitness games to tea parties
  • Create printed monthly calendars and newsletters
  • Actively facilitate and model person-centered care, including the incorporation of activities of daily living into structured programming; support residents in self-directed/solo activities and in assuming leadership roles
  • Complete resident personal histories, and maintain these documents along with activity participation records
  • Arrange for entertainers, speakers and other outside service providers
  • Organize special events and outings, handling details such as decorating, purchasing advance tickets, recruiting volunteers, planning refreshments with food and beverage director, etc.
