Otterbein SeniorLife is seeking an Activities Assistant to coordinate and implement activity programming for HealthCenters under the Director of Activities. This full-time role supports residents with group and 1:1 activities, prioritizing safety, engagement, and holistic well-being in a long-term care setting.

The position emphasizes compassion, strong communication, and teamwork with other staff, plus adherence to state guidelines and proper documentation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience or equivalent combination.
• Must be caring, compassionate and energetic to provide engaging activities.
• Strong writing, documentation and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Encourage residents to participate in group or self-directed activities.
• Lead group activities as assigned and ensure resident safety during activities.
• Provide 1:1 activity interventions for residents needing individualized engagement.
• Communicate with staff and families about residents and planned activities.
• Assist Director of Activities by reporting observations and needs.
• Ensure compliance with state regulatory guidelines and maintain equipment/supplies.

Overview

Assist the Activities Team under the direction of the Director of Activities with the coordination and implementation of the activity programming for the HealthCenters. This position is a great match and rewarding opportunity for candidates with long term care experience.

Shift: Full-time, 8:30am - 4:00 pm weekdays (plus every-other weekend)

Responsibilities

• Encouraging residents to participate in group and/or engage in self-directed activities.
• Encouraging participation in activities while respecting wishes of those residents with little or no interest in programming.
• Leading group activities as assigned by Director of Activities.
• Ensuring resident health, safety and welfare during activities, assistance to/from, transfers in/out of wheelchairs or other specialized equipment.
• Providing creative and adaptable 1:1 activity intervention with residents that have little or no group activity involvement. (A list of those residents needing 1:1’s will be provided as needed.)
• Maintaining proper communication with other staff/departments regarding residents and scheduled activities.
• Interacting with residents and/or families when present.
• Assisting Director of Activities by advising of observations/needs.
• Assuring that all state regulatory guidelines are followed as it relates to above duties performed.
• Maintaining equipment and supplies.
• Completing all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education : High School diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience: One to two years’ activities assisting is preferred, especially in a long-term care setting.
• Must possess a caring, compassionate, energetic personality and a desire to provide entertaining and stimulating activities to enhance the quality of life and holistic growth of residents
• Must be detail oriented and have excellent literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities
• Willing to pursue and complete the Indiana 90-hour Basic Activity Director’s Course within one year of employment (not mandatory).
