Lunalilo Home and Adult Day Center seeks an Activities Program Aide for a full-time schedule (Monday–Saturday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM) to assist in planning and directing therapeutic exercise and recreation programs for kupuna.

You will lead daily exercise and group activities, organize supplies, monitor timetables, document notes, support fall prevention, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for elders and their families.

Qualifications

  • TB clearance (2-step)
  • Pre-employment drug testing (required upon hire)
  • Criminal background and APS clearance (required upon hire)
  • Certification in In-Person Adult BLS CPR/AED (required upon hire)
  • Certification in In-Person Adult First Aid (required upon hire)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • 3 months related experience and/or training in geriatric or long term care

Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts therapeutic exercise and recreation programs including games, music, arts and crafts, gardening, parties, excursions and cultural activities
  • Leads daily exercise programs: 1:1 walks, group walks, and routine seated exercises
  • Monitors schedules to ensure activities are executed properly and records observations
  • Prepares supplies, furniture setups, and equipment for activities and returns items after use
  • Assists with transfers, transporting, and care during outings
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment and notifies supervisor of emergencies

We seek an Activities Program Aide for a Full-Time (Monday- Saturday 8:00 AM -4:30 PM) schedule to assist in the planning, organizing and directing therapeutic exercise and recreation programs to effect improvement in the physical, mental and social well-being of kupuna.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in planning, organizing, directing therapeutic exercise and recreation programs to include such activities as games, music, arts and crafts, gardening, parties, excursions, special events and cultural activities. Plans and conducts mental stimulation programs for memory support.

Leads daily exercise programs, ranging in:

  • Daily 1:1 Walks/Strolls
  • Daily AM/PM Group Walk/Strolls
  • Daily AM/PM Group routine sit down exercise sessions

Conducts group and individual recreation activities according to client’s needs, capabilities, and interests.

Monitors the following:

  • Calendar activities throughout the day
  • Assures timetables and planned activities are executed properly
  • Provides suggestions for scheduling activities and events.

Prepares for activities daily by assembling the following:

  • Supplies for specific activities
  • Furniture (i.e. tables and chairs) arranging, set ups and break downs frequently
  • Equipment needed for each activity (i.e. tables, chairs, boards, easels, games, materials etc.); and returns equipment to storage and/or its original location after the completion of activity.

Assists with the following:

  • Close supervision
  • Fall prevention

Maintains and provides the following:

  • A secure and safe environment
  • Notifying ADC Director and/or Activities Program Coordinator in cases of emergencies
  • A clean and sanitized environment

Maintains and reviews the following:

  • Daily communication logs
  • Utilizes the Communication Book at the beginning of each shift for updates on changes in the care of clients, appointments and documents any observations and/or unusual behaviors throughout the day.
  • Daily logs of the Center
  • Hydration Program
  • Client’s Attendance sign out by caregivers / families
  • Daily Meal Orders
  • Client’s Plan of Care and Activities
  • Progress Reports and Notes

Properly secures all reports, forms, notes and logs in daycare office at the end of shift.

Assists with transferring, transporting and caring for clients on field trips/outings.

Performs other duties as requested by management that support the mission of the organization.

Required Documentation:

Physical requirements
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs with some frequency.
  • Able to continuously bend, squat stand or walk.
  • Able to think and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Have eye-hand-foot coordination.
