Job summary

Lunalilo Home in Honolulu, HI is seeking a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) for a part-time schedule to support the Nursing Department with supervision, health observation, and daily care of kupuna. Flexible shifts include day, evening, and night, with a focus on compassionate, quality care.

Responsibilities include assisting with admissions, meals, mobility, and documenting intake; ensuring safety and sanitary conditions; and reporting changes to supervisors.

Qualifications

• CNA certification required or in process.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 6 months related experience in geriatric or long-term care preferred.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Assist kupuna with admissions, transfers and discharges; record vital signs.
• Assist with meals and daily living activities; help residents with belongings.
• Deliver nutritional supplements and ensure intake is documented.
• Support residents with bathing, toileting and dressing; maintain a safe environment.
• Report changes in residents’ condition to supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in kupuna admissions, transfers and discharges. Obtains and records vital signs.
• Assists kupuna with meal. Assists with before and after meal care. Transports kupuna to and from dinning area. Help residents with their belongings.
• Delivers nutritional supplements to kupuna at assigned times and provides assistance as necessary to ensure intake. Documents intake accordingly.
• Support kupuna in daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, and dressing.
• Assists in providing a safe and sanitary environment for kupuna (e.g. changes bed linen when necessary).
• Perform specialized therapy and range of motion exercise/activities
• Provides supportive services to nurse(s) and other staff as needed and performs duties as assigned.
• Reports changes in kupuna's condition to supervisor.
• Treats all kupuna, staff, visitors with dignity and respect.

Required Documentation:

• Annual physician exam
• TB clearance (2-step)
• Criminal background and APS clearance.
• Certification in In-Person Adult BLS CPR/AED
• Certification in In-Person Adult First Aid
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• 6 months related experience and/or training in geriatric or long term care (preferred)
• CNA Certificate

Physical requirements:

• Able to lift up to 70 lbs with some frequency.
• Able to continuously stand or walk.
• Able to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently.
• Able to think and respond quickly in emergency situations.
• Have eye-hand-foot coordination.

Mental requirements:

• Comfortable with technology, including computer and other software and equipment.
• Alert and pro-active (rather than reactive) when attending to residents.
• Use sympathy and tact when interacting with residents

Preferred Qualifications:

• Six months experience as a Certified Nurse Aide.
• Prior training or experience working with residents with dementia.
• Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
