We're looking for a creative, warm-hearted Activities Coordinator to lead our Life Enrichment program - designing experiences that bring joy, purpose, and connection to every guest, including those in our memory care neighborhood. The Activities Coordinator ensures that all programs are designed with safety, supervision, and guest capability in mind. The role supports guests with higher care needs while promoting dignity, purpose, and meaningful daily structure.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Delivery
- Plan and lead a full calendar of social, recreational, physical, cognitive, sensory, and spiritual activities
- Personalize programming for guests of all abilities, including memory care
- Modify programming to meet individual needs, including guests with dementia, mobility challenges, and behavioral symptoms
- Design activities for guests unable to participate in group settings to create individualized, alternative options
- Facilitate daily structured programming to meet and exceed state requirements and community standards
- Coordinate volunteers, entertainers, special events, holiday celebrations, and family functions
- Partner with our Wellness team to align activities with each guest's care plan
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready participation documentation
- Maintain appropriate supplies, equipment, and budgets responsibly
Guest Assessment & Engagement
- Complete guest interest profiles, abilities assessments, and ongoing evaluations to ensure person-centered programming
- Monitor guest participation and document engagement, mood, safety concerns, and changes in abilities
- Collaborate with all levels of community teams to support guests with increased supervision or behavioral needs
Safety Compliance
- Implement safety protocols for guests requiring assistance during group activities and outdoor events
- Maintain awareness of guests who need support with ambulation, transfers, redirection, or exit-seeking behaviors and ensure proper staffing is on hand when necessary to complete the activity
- Assist with emergency drills and evacuation procedures
Community Engagement
- Coordinate volunteers, entertainers, and partnerships with local organizations, churches, schools, and civic groups
- Promote intergenerational and community involvement when safe for guests
Additional Support Services
- Provide support during meal times, special events, or guest supervision as needed
- Assist with transporting guests to and from activities when transportation is available
- Participate in team training, safety meetings, and HHSC compliance reviews
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- A genuine passion for enriching seniors' lives with purpose and joy
- Experience working with seniors, dementia care, or assisted living
- Creativity and flexibility to adapt programming for a range of abilities
- Strong organizational skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Preferred: coursework or degree in recreation therapy, social services, gerontology, dementia care, or related field
Skills & Competencies
- Strong ability to engage and motivate guests with varying levels of function
- Knowledge of dementia-friendly and adaptive activities
- Excellent communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with all team members of the community
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management abilities
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, scheduling or electronic documentation software)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and assist guests during activities if needed
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, push wheelchairs, and accompany guests safely
Work Schedule
Flexible schedule with availability for some evenings, weekends, and holidays to support events and resident needs.
