Job summary

Spring Harbor in Columbus, GA is seeking an Activities Assistant for Resident Services. You will assist in developing and coordinating programs to enrich residents' lives in Independent Living and related settings.

Under the Resident Services Director, you will organize activities, supervise volunteers, prepare monthly calendars, and ensure safe, engaging experiences for seniors with empathy and creativity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff team members.
  • Experience in recreation and activities.
  • Must possess patience and understanding of the elderly; imagination and creativity.
  • Basic knowledge of audiovisual equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, and Canva.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing and supervising designated programs and activities, engaging speakers, entertainers, community outreach groups, and serves as liaison between dining services and operations department regarding set-up and clean-up of resident activities in Independent Living.
  • Assists Director with the planning and production of the monthly calendar, newsletter and weekly updates, publicizing programs for residents and staff.
  • Responsible for assisting with the set-up of special functions for Independent Living to include decorating, flower placement/arranging, etc.
  • Assists with recruitment, orientation and coordination of volunteers.
  • Establishing and maintaining acceptable record keeping practices and attending scheduled in-services and training, as required.
  • Independently carry out resident programming, as indicated.
  • Ability to plan and assume a leadership role at recreational programs.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be able to handle residents based on whatever maturity level, they are currently functioning.
  • Ability to read and comprehend memos, reports and variety of instructions in written, oral and diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Ability to convey information on a person-to-person basis clearly and distinctly so that it is easily understood.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Must be flexible regarding work schedule and willing to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and the general public which includes cooperating with other departments in meeting the needs of the residents.
  • Must function in a confidential manner.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

Activities Assistant, Resident Services

About the Role:

Under the supervision of the Resident Services Director, the Activity Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting in the development, organization, coordination and implementation of comprehensive services and programs which enrich the lives of each resident. He/she shall assist the Director in areas of resident and staff relations and will be responsible for implementing and supervising programs and activities for residents in the Facility to include Assisted and Independent Living.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff team members.
  • Experience in recreation and activities
  • Must possess patience and understanding of the elderly; sense of imagination and creativity.
  • Basic knowledge of audiovisual equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, and Canva

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid
  • Previous experience working with the elderly
  • Strong organizational skills and experience in program planning.
