Spring Harbor At Green Island is seeking an Activities Assistant to enrich residents' daily living in our Healthcare Facilities. You will help develop, organize, coordinate and implement engaging programs that support cognitive and physical health while fostering independence and community.

Collaborating with the Activities Assistant team, you’ll manage calendars, coordinate volunteers, and assist with events.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with older adults in recreational or therapeutic settings.
  • Basic knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team.
  • At least one year experience in activity planning, preferably in a health care environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and supervise designated programs and activities with speakers and groups, coordinating with dining and operations.
  • Plan and produce the monthly calendar, newsletter and weekly updates for residents and staff.
  • Assist with set-up of special events, including decorating and flower placement.
  • Recruit, orient and coordinate volunteers.
  • Maintain acceptable record keeping and attend required trainings.
  • Lead resident programming with empathy and independence.
  • Coordinate with other departments to meet residents' needs.
  • Convey information clearly and maintain confidentiality.

About the Role:

The Activities Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in primarily responsible for assisting in the development, organization, coordination and implementation of comprehensive services and programs which enrich the lives of each resident. He/she shall assist the Director in areas of resident and staff relations and will be responsible for implementing and supervising programs and activities for residents in the Healthcare Facilities. The assistant collaborates closely with the Activities Assistant team to implement activities that encourage participation, foster independence, and support cognitive and physical health. By creating a positive and inclusive environment, the role contributes to residents' overall satisfaction and sense of community. Ultimately, the Activities Assistant helps to enrich daily living experiences and supports the mission of providing compassionate, person-centered care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities in a recreational or therapeutic setting.
  • Basic knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Position requires a minimum of one year experience in activity planning, preferably in a health care environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point
  • Must have current state Driver’s license and clean driving record as this position will involve occasional use of company vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA)
  • Previous experience in an assisted living or long-term care environment.
  • Training in CPR and First Aid.
  • Familiarity with adaptive recreational equipment and techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and supervising designated programs and activities, engaging speakers, entertainers, community outreach groups, and serves as liaison between dining services and operations department regarding set-up and clean-up of resident activities in Healthcare.
  • Assists Coordinator with the planning and production of the monthly calendar, newsletter and weekly updates, publicizing programs for residents and staff.
  • Responsible for assisting with the set-up of special functions for Healthcare to include decorating, flower placement/arranging, etc.
  • Assists with recruitment, orientation and coordination of volunteers.
  • Establishing and maintaining acceptable record keeping practices and attending scheduled in-services and training, as required.
  • Must have a sincere interest in working with the elderly population and be able to independently carry out resident programming, as indicated.
  • Ability to plan and assume a leadership role at recreational programs.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be able to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
  • Ability to read and comprehend memos, reports and variety of instructions in written, oral and diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Ability to convey information on a person-to-person basis clearly and distinctly so that it is easily understood.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Must be flexible regarding work schedule and willing to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and the general public which includes cooperating with other departments in meeting the needs of the residents.
  • Must function in a confidential manner.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.

Mental & Physical Requirements

  • Requires ability to stand and walk short and long distances for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, squat and kneel.
  • Must be able to push or pull objects in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Requires reaching above, below and at shoulder level.
  • Work will be performed both in indoor and outdoor environments, around and off the grounds of the facility with varying sound, lighting and temperature conditions.
  • Work area may be subject to noise, distractions and interruptions.
  • Works closely with others as well as alone.
