Job summary

Friendship is hiring an Activities Assistant / CNA for the Richfield Health Center in Salem, VA. The part-time position offers 25 hours per week, afternoons, with some weekend requirements and occasional evenings/holidays. Typical hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm, with supervision by the Activities Director.

The role focuses on promoting recreation programs, coordinating group and individual activities, and supporting residents with physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs in a memory care setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience in memory care/long-term care preferred.
• Active role requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist with group activities under the supervision of the Director.
• Plan and provide activities for residents including music, sensory stimulation, reminiscence, cognitive therapies, and arts/crafts.
• Lead one-on-one activity sessions with residents who cannot attend groups.
• Arrange and set up designated rooms for scheduled activities and supervise volunteers as needed.
• Receive, store, issue and clean equipment for activities while following infection control guidelines.
• Attend required in-services and work with residents, families, co-workers and community.

Friendship is looking for an Activities Assistant / CNAto join our Richfield Health Center team, located in Salem, VA. The Activities Assistant is responsible for the overall promotion, organization, and leadership of recreation programs.

Shifts Available:

• Part-Time: 25 hours each week, afternoons, 5 hours each day. Holidays as needed.
• Leads or assists with group activities under the supervision of the Director
• Provides and plans activities for each individual to include music, sensory stimulation, touch and tactile therapy, reminiscent and cognitive therapy, spiritual activities, arts, crafts, games, exercises, horticulture, pet therapy, and field trips
• Provides activities for residents’ interest (past and present), physical, mental, and psychosocial needs
• Leads one-on-one activity sessions with residents who are unable to attend groups due to physical/mental capabilities or who refuse activities
• Matches innovative recreation with individual needs and motivates participation in activities
• Maintains good attendance and arrives/departs work at the scheduled time
• Position requires working one weekend a month as the schedule allows and an occasional evening/holidays. Normal hours will be 8:30 am to 5 pm
• Supervises volunteers as needed or as deemed necessary by the Activities Director
• Arranges and sets up designated rooms and areas for scheduled activities
• Receives, stores, issues and cleans specified equipment for scheduled activities, keeping within guidelines with infection control policies
• Works well with volunteers, family, co-workers, and outside community
• Attends in-services required by Activities Director and Friendship Retirement Administration

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Experience in a memory care setting/long-term care/rehabilitation facility preferred
• This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects weighing over 50 pounds
• CNA certification preferred
