Synchron has an exciting opportunity for an Acoustic Engineer supporting the Acoustics Systems Integration Team in PMS 450, the VIRGINIA Class Submarine program office. As an Acoustic Engineer, you will be on a dynamic team of technical subject matter experts providing technical management of products supporting the VIRGINIA Class Submarine Program at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC! PMS 450 executes and oversees the design, development, acquisition, construction and delivery of the United States' newest attack submarine. PMS 450 is responsible for developing and deploying a more affordable, nuclear-powered attack submarine with multi-mission capability and enhanced capabilities for performance in littoral areas. VIRGINIA Class submarines support five of the six Navy core maritime capabilities: Deterrence, Maritime Security, Sea Control, Forward Presence, and Power Projection.

Responsibilities:

• Support PMS 450 evaluation of proposed designs and arrangements.
• Maintain expert-level knowledge of ship specification sections and first tier references, ISO interpretation of technical requirements, and verification of program compliance.
• Review technical and engineering submittals and provide assessments/recommendations (with inputs from appropriate stakeholders as needed) on issue resolution including consolidating differing points of view and defining available options and their associated pros and cons.
• Liaison with the "Red-Box" Technical Warrant Holders (TWHs) and Naval Reactors for the systems under their cognizance
• Assist the SDMs/DSDMs/MAITs in de-conflicting differing technical viewpoints and program constraints.
• Co-lead NAVSEA Ship's Silencing Working Group, including the conducting of NRP audits/shipchecks to validate ships as-build configuration.
• Manage commitment updates/status.
• Identify technical issues that need resolution and work with applicable SITs to facilitate resolution. Facilitate timely decisions, review, and adjudication of all design products and written correspondence.
• Act as a liaison with other PMS 450 team members and NAVSEA 05 TWHs.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with the PM, DPM and/or technical leads.
• Lead program review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
• Provide acquisition management planning and execution support.
• Lead technical discussions for project reviews, including preparing and delivering formal briefings.

Education and Experience:

• An active Secret clearance and U.S. Citizenship.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (math, physics, technical or even music discipline) and 5 years' experience.
• Excellent communications and analytical skills; the ability to meet with program officials and influence actions needed to meet technical program milestones.
• Experience briefing senior leaders.
• Proficiency with MS Office products (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)

Desired Education and Experience:

• In-depth knowledge of the VIRGINIA Class submarine, both nuclear and non-nuclear, including engines, screws, steam systems, power systems, electrical systems, the design, all of which have an effect the acoustic signature of the submarine.
• Experience in minimizing acoustic signatures to increase survivability of the submarine.
• Knowledge of submarine acoustics systems in an acquisition arena.
• Familiarity with the ship's silent operations, both in nuclear and non-nuclear systems
• Experience with noise control and how to reduce submarine acoustics signature. Familiarity with submarine ship specification sections and first-tier references.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements and the ability to verify submarine program compliance with those requirements.
• Demonstrated experience de-conflicting differing technical viewpoints and program constraints in a high OPTEMPO environment.
• Be comfortable working within all regimes of engineering disciplines (ship architecture, electrical, electronics, piping, structures and HVAC engineering).
• Active-duty experience in the submarine service.
• Some experience with Navy acquisition and/or In-Service Programs.
• Recent experience in Team Submarine.
