Fluidstack is seeking an acoustics engineer to predict and manage noise for gigawatt-scale data center templates. You will model outdoor sound propagation, quantify equipment noise, and specify barriers and enclosures to stay within limits.
You will run environmental noise studies, work with mechanical and electrical teams, and ensure hearing conservation and regulatory compliance across sites.
About Fluidstack We exist to make humanity more free. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.
We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. Love of the game. You'll join the civil, structural, and architectural engineers who design the buildings, sites, and yards for Fluidstack's gigawatt-scale AI data centers. The team works from template designs that repeat across campuses, and every template carries large mechanical plant, on-site generation, and electrical yards whose sound has to be understood before the first site is permitted. This role is the team's acoustics specialist and the point of contact for noise across the data center and power generation engineering groups.
Predicting property-line and community noise from template data center designs with hundreds of fans, chillers, and dry coolers running at full load, before a site is chosen.
Quantifying the noise of on-site gas generation, transformers, and switchyards and folding it into the same site model.
Choosing mitigations that work as repeatable products, such as barriers, silencers, enclosures, and equipment selection, rather than site-by-site fixes.
Keeping occupied work areas inside and around the plant within occupational noise limits as equipment density rises.
Run environmental and occupational noise studies and calculations for the template data center and power generation designs, and keep them current as the templates change.
Model the sites. Build and maintain outdoor sound propagation models for each template and adapt them to candidate sites, terrain, and local ordinances.
Specify barriers, silencers, acoustic enclosures, louvers, and equipment selections that bring sites within limits, with the cost and schedule case for each.
Work across engineering. Bring noise requirements into the mechanical, electrical, power generation, and architectural designs early, and review their equipment selections and layouts for acoustic impact.
Set occupational noise exposure limits for plant and yard work areas, define hearing conservation zones, and verify them at commissioning.
Produce the noise assessments, reports, and measurements that permitting and community engagement need, and answer the questions that come back.
5+ years of acoustics or noise control engineering on industrial, power generation, or mission-critical facilities, with at least one project taken from study through permit and commissioning measurement.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
